Double Take

I've gotten alot of those lately.  Mostly at Holiday parties after responding to the question, "What kind of consultant are you?"  Being a sustainability consultant lends itself to description as does the word sustainability.  So, why not start with, "what is sustainability?"

A general definition of the word, sustainability, is the capacity to maintain a certain process or state indefinitely.  More recently, sustainability has been described as development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of future generations. For business, the triple bottom line reporting of environmental, economic, and social impact of an organization aligns with sustainability.  However, a more loose definition for environmental businesses is defined as businesses  that operate in ways that solve, rather than cause, both environmental and social problems.

So it seems that sustainability is an evolving word, and much like a diamond,  appears to have a slightly different perspective depending on how you are looking at it.  At Taiga Company, we build on the definitions above to include sustainability as a cycle of continual renewal and expansion. The sustainability concept  introduces a new framework for businesses and individuals to explore the environmental, social, and economic impacts of their choices as well as discovering processes which close the gap from your current standpoint in relation to a preferred state. More on that in following posts.
