Earth Day, Every Day

It's exciting to think of the many wonderful activities and events being held to celebrate Earth Day. Communities, businesses, and neighborhoods are all honoring Earth Day with events that highlight eco awareness and our planet.

Earth Day started as a way to recognize that the Earth needed help and many use the annual celebration to kick off new environmental goals and commitments. Fortunately, many businesses and individuals now look to Earth Day to celebrate success milestones and more importantly, build on that success for the future.

As a sustainability consultant participating in Earth Day events, questions “How can we help each other do more?" and "How can we encourage others to continually raise the bar?" are dominant. It's encouraging to observe the increased festivities around this day, but wouldn't it be exceptional to have this level of eco awareness and environmental focus sustained throughout the year?

How can we do that? Generating sustained eco awareness is not an external thing. As in, it is not somebody or some other organization's responsibility. It is our responsibility.

As sustainability consultants at Taiga Company, we work with businesses and individuals to integrate sustainability concepts into the workplace and daily lives. We partner to transform existing operations into those that embrace a positive environmental impact. The most successful implementations are those in which the individuals discover and resonate with the value being offered. Succinctly said, one needs to find the value in it for themselves for the change to be made and sustained.

With that being said, sustaining Earth Day is about being a leader in your business. It's about living a sustainable lifestyle. Businesses embracing sustainable business practices and individuals living a sustainable lifestyle lead and inspire by example. Words do not teach but action does. One can never know the inspiration that is sparked by their own accord but others observing and finding value in that do.
