Foursquare for Greenies

image: foursquareThere is a new social networking website that is increasing in popularity and it’s called Foursquare.  Haven't heard of it?  Well, it's a combination of micro-blogging (like Twitter), and GPS geocaching (finding places) and you can use it to bring eco awareness to your friends and community.   By using your smartphone, you 'check in' with the Foursquare website, publish your physical location, and write a quick review about the restaurant or pub or coffee shop you are visiting.

For those living a sustainable lifestyle, it's natural to want to spread the good word of local green businesses, non profits, and green events.  By checking in at sustainable businesses offering green products and services, you are putting those businesses on the map, introducing those businesses to friends, as well as supporting for these businesses with your financial dollar.

Business can use it too!  The growth in social and eco awareness has made the link between business sustainability and a thriving community more visible today than it ever has been before.  Companies are more directly tied to the communities in which they operate. Use Foursquare to:
  • Encourage Foursquare Users to Check in and Post Reviews about Your Location
  • Use the Points Structure of Foursquare to Support a Local Charity.  This encourages visits to your business and gives back to those who need our help!
  • Create Specials for Foursquare Users that encourages to visit more frequently

the post title was appealing, but I'm unclear what one would do on foursquare to identify a location as green, or to find a green-friendly spot? Is there a badge or something? Hashtag?
