Now here's an interesting fact, according to the Thai solar calendar, the color associated with Wednesday is green. As a sustainability consultant, I have to smile! Why not have a little fun on hump day and spark some eco awareness into your day? As a personal consultant in the area of creating sustainable lifestyles, I like to offer fun challenges to our clients to see how many green things they can do in a day, a week, or month. Using creative ways to introduce sustainability concepts keeps a personal sustainability plan fun and fresh. Also, by focusing on a specific day or event, it elevates the priority of eco awareness that sometimes gets lost or buried in daily habits.
With that being said, "How do you plan to green your hump day?" Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Green your Cubicle
- Go paperless for the entire day.
- Use technology to go green.
- Take on a new sustainability role or green project at work. Become the “go-to” person for sustainability knowledge.
- Create a green discussion group at work or in your community.
- Practice energy efficiency: unplug seldom used appliances, put your computer in sleep mode, and use as much natural light as possible.
- Try an organic personal care product.
- Eat an organic meal.
- Take public transportation.
- Replace chemical cleaning agents with natural, biodegradable, phosphorous free cleaning solutions.
- Attack your closet! Apply the 3 R’s : reduce by removing clothes you no longer wear, reuse and recycle by donating to a local clothing donation.
Better yet, get your friends involved! Ask 5 of your friends or coworkers to join you in greening your hump day. Great minds think alike. There's no telling the number of fun, creative ways you can inspire eco awareness in your day.
