In aligning Investment Recovery to business sustainability, I have worked with clients to identify material and determine the best path forward.

Best practices in reusing or recycling equipment include
:

  • Is it possible to redeploy this material or equipment within the organization?  Can another location or business unit use it?
  • Is it possible to return it to the manufacturer or distributor?
  • Is it possible to sell it in an industry association to companies having similar unique needs?
  • Is it possible to donate this equipment or material?
  • Which services are available to source, buy, and sell surplus equipment and material?

In my professional consulting, I point out to clients that surplus material and equipment can be new, used, in small or large quantities, in various locations, and so forth.  What is considered surplus or unusable to one company may be a perfect match for another.  A form of recycling at the corporate level and another way to bring eco awareness to your business operations.

The Investment Recovery Association is the official professional association for managers of surplus and idle assets.  Although specific to industry types, following are additional resources to consider for the purchase and selling of new, used, end of life surplus equipment and material.

  • Asset Auctions: offering online auctions of government surplus and industrial equipment
  • Network International: an online marketplace for surplus energy equipment
  • SalvageSale: is the largest global, online marketplace for the disposition of commercial salvage and corporate assets
  • Select Recovery Services: are buyers and brokers of industrial surplus
  • TARM Inc.: manages surplus for many of North America’s leading
  • Oil & Gas, Petro-Chemical and Utility companies listing assets on The Exchange.

Investment Recovery, as a sustainable business practice can help your organization to reduce inventory (including storage costs, maintenance costs, taxes), contribute positively to the bottom line, and contribute to your company's sustainability plan.
