Make an Impact on Earth Day 2010

image: Make an ImpactIf you think about it, everything we do every day has an impact on our planet.  Not everyone was raised with eco awareness, so why and when does it start becoming important?  Speaking from experience as a sustainable living consultant, I've learned that some families go green for their children or because it saves money.  Living a sustainable lifestyle may be influenced by one's stage in life or maybe it's because it's Earth Day and you've made a choice to make a positive impact.

It's not uncommon to be faced with common hurdles to living green:

•    Why should I care about Global Warming?
•    My lifestyle really isn't adding to the problem...is it?
•    Does my entire lifestyle have to change to live sustainably?
•    It cost too much and it's hard.
•    What exactly is "living green"?

Sparked Earth Day inspiration, many are eco curious.   As described in our sustainability consulting practice, sustainable living is a primary focus on eco awareness with actions towards reducing ones carbon footprint and embracing sustainability concepts in decision making.

So what exactly does this mean and how do I get started?  With countless tools, websites, blogs, forums to navigate, the inspiring choice of a sustainable lifestyle or green living can become daunting.

Here's the low down.  First, make a conscious and committed choice to take an eco action in your life that you are inspired to make. Second, do it.  Repeat. This makes Earth Day every day and positively impacts our world.

For ideas on how to get started, visit  Make an Impact by the Pew Center for Global Climate Change.   Their website provides the information and tools enabling everyone to take action in the fight against global climate change. The site encourages individuals to make smart energy and environmental decisions at home, at work, and everywhere in between.

If you are super inspired, check out PineMark for green lifestyle certification for individuals.

When others see you living a sustainable lifestyle, and see that you are prospering, it inspires them to make similar efforts for themselves.  And that- is making an impact.
