If you are like me (fair skin), you know the importance of a good sunscreen.  While most of us are aware of the benefits of protecting our skin, few are aware of the value to personal health and the environment in making more informed choices.

In our sustainability consulting, we remind our friends and clients that choosing an eco friendly product is aligned with a sustainable lifestyle.  The great news is there are a variety of options available.  Unlike previous options, today’s products are better for the environment, contain fewer toxins, yet work effectively to protect our skin.

Visit some of the following sites to raise your eco awareness and see which options are best for you:

•    Grist tests eco-sunscreens.
•    Environmental Working Group Sunscreen Database.
•    The Green Guide’s tips for buying sunscreen.

The pursuit of a sustainable lifestyle includes a search to continuously integrate eco awareness into your life.  Some of the most impactful areas are those that we do as part of our daily routine.  As a personal consultant, I echo my client's concerns that mainstream manufacturers of personal care products use known or suspected toxic ingredients  in their product formulas.  By becoming more informed, we can choose alternative choices.

Using organic personal care products is not only good for you, but it's also good for the environment and good for businesses.  By making a choice for alternative products, as a consumer you contribute to raising eco awareness and expanding the market  for organic and environmentally friendly products.
