Why Look to the Supply Chain for Sustainability?

Sustainability is no longer that mysterious and misunderstood topic of conversation that does not apply to business.  Based on our sustainability consulting experience, most companies have at least a basic understanding of the value in integrating sustainability concepts into core business processes.  However, like many organizations, the biggest challenge facing many of our clients is the limitation of available resources.  This has many businesses searching for high impact opportunities across their value chain.

While we find many organizations may have a strong corporate desire to demonstrate  environment stewardship and corporate responsibility, these companies often have to make a strong business case to justify time, resources, and dollars to sustainable development.  For this reason, our professional consulting has seen sustainable supply chain management receiving considerable attention.  The value in a supply focus include:

•    Unlimited source of available resources.
•    Direct control of material and process inputs.
•    Largest concentration of energy consumption, emissions, and waste.
•    Immediate impacts to business sustainability.

As business sustainability becomes a top priority for business leaders, we believe executives will look to their business partners to not only follow their lead but carry much of the load.  Taiga Company and it small business resources view these actions as a shift in supplier performance measures and a new wave of supply chain management.
